Gyan expresses satisfaction at Shanghai SIPG showing
The frontman scored on his debut against Tianjin Teda and has been the toast of fans ever since
Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he’s happy with his performance so far for Shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League.
The 29-year-old joined the side in July on a two-year deal, having enjoyed a largely successful four-year
stay at Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, and has so far scored four times in seven appearances.
“I think it's a good start and I'm very happy because for a striker, it’s very important to start on a good note to build up confidence,” Gyan told Chinese television network CCTV.
“Honestly, I've been through different challenges before getting to the Chinese league. This is another opportunity for me to showcase myself to the people.
“I remember I scored on my debut when I went to Sunderland so that's how I use to psyche myself.”
The all-time Ghana top scorer also revealed his major challenge in his Chinese adventure.
“Language-wise, I think it's going to be very difficult to speak Chinese but hopefully within a couple of months, I will get used to it," Gyan said.
"I don't know if I am going to speak Chinese or not but I will make sure I take some lessons and try to learn some words in the language.
“But so far, living here has been cool although I haven't been out to see the places but it's alright.”
A former player of Liberty Professionals in Ghana, Gyan joined Sunderland in 2010 after an impressive World Cup in South Africa, having earlier spent some time with Udinese, Modena and French outfit Rennes.
